What is an aircraft hangar?
An aircraft hangar is a covered structure used for the safe housing, maintenance and storage of aircraft. Depending on its intended use (private or commercial), size, specifications and materials can vary considerably. The right hangar not only protects against weather conditions, but also significantly extends the service life of your aircraft or helicopter.
What types of aircraft hangars are there?
Kitbuilding Systems offers two proven types of hangar. Steel hangars provide maximum stability and long-term use, with optional insulation, while PVC hangars offer flexible, mobile solutions with lower costs and fast installation.
Steel construction – with or without insulation
Our steel aircraft hangars offer maximum stability and durability, making them ideal for permanent use at airfields, shipyards or on private property. They are available with or without insulation and can be customised to your specific requirements.
- Hot-dip galvanised steel frame (Q235 / H-beams)
- Cladding made of steel sheeting or sandwich panels (with insulation)
- Suitable for permanent use
- Custom dimensions and door sizes
- Optional insulation for year-round use and temperature stability
- Suitable for installation on a concrete slab or permanent foundation
PVC aircraft hangar – mobile & cost-efficient
Our lightweight PVC aircraft hangars are designed for temporary and flexible applications. They offer fast installation, easy relocation and straightforward dismantling, while reliably protecting aircraft from weather exposure.
- Weather-resistant PVC cover (610 g/m²)
- UV-resistant, waterproof, optionally flame-retardant
- Self-supporting steel frame structure
- Available in 2 colours: light grey or military green
- Mobile, relocatable & quick to install
- Wind load up to 35 m/s | snow load: 66 kg/m²
- Ideal for temporary locations, events or airfields without permanent infrastructure
What to consider when buying an aircraft hangar

Size & space requirements
Depending on the size of the aircraft (e.g. Cessna vs ultralight aircraft), the hangar must be appropriately sized in terms of width, depth and height. We are happy to advise you.

Permits & building regulations
Depending on the size of the aircraft (e.g. Cessna vs ultralight aircraft), the hangar must be appropriately sized in terms of width, depth and height. We are happy to advise you.
Location & weather conditions
Snow load, wind speeds and ground conditions must be carefully considered. Our hangars are structurally engineered and, if required, can be supplied with certified structural calculations.

Use & expandability

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We offer a choice of PVC hangars, classic steel aircraft hangars and insulated variants. PVC hangars are particularly popular when flexibility, mobility and fast installation are key. If you are looking for a permanent and especially robust solution, our steel hangars are the ideal choice. For the highest demands in terms of temperature control and protection, we recommend our insulated models. This ensures you always find the aircraft hangar that perfectly suits your aircraft and intended use.
Yes, absolutely. Our hangars are not only suitable for aircraft, but also for helicopters, vehicles, machinery or use as a workshop. They provide flexible, protected space exactly where you need it.
Our kits include everything you need for installation. This means the complete steel frame structure, the appropriate cladding (depending on the selected model), a large aircraft door, all fixing components and detailed assembly instructions. You don’t need to organise anything else.
A portable hangar can be dismantled and reassembled at another location if required. Temporary hangars are usually installed at one site for a longer period but can also be used flexibly. Both options give you maximum freedom without compromising on protection.
As a general guideline: for a small aircraft such as a Cessna 172, we recommend a width of around 9 to 12 metres, a depth of 9 to 12 metres and a height of 4 to 5 metres. Our advisors will be happy to help you determine the ideal aircraft hangar size for your specific model and space requirements.
Yes, we regularly design and manufacture bespoke aircraft hangars. Whether you need additional height, special door widths or an exact fit for your site, our team will plan your hangar to match your requirements perfectly.
Yes – and this is one of our key advantages. Our hangar systems are modular in design, allowing adjustments in width, length and height. They can also be expanded at a later stage, so your aircraft hangar can grow alongside your needs.
Not at all. Our aircraft hangars are designed so that, with basic practical skills, you can carry out the installation yourself. Clear, easy-to-follow instructions guide you step by step. Alternatively, you can choose our professional installation service and leave the entire process to us.
This depends on the model. A PVC aircraft hangar can often be fully installed within two to three days. For steel or insulated aircraft hangars, you should allow approximately five to ten days. Our efficient designs reduce installation time and allow you to put your hangar into use quickly.
Yes, every kit includes detailed installation instructions. If required, we also provide video tutorials. And if you have any questions during installation, our support team is always happy to assist.
Whether planning permission is required depends on the size of the hangar and its location. In many cases, our PVC aircraft hangars do not require planning permission or fall under simplified approval procedures. Larger steel aircraft hangars usually require planning permission. If needed, we provide all relevant technical documentation to help you obtain approval quickly and smoothly from the local authorities.
For PVC aircraft hangars, a level concrete surface is usually sufficient. For permanent steel aircraft hangars, we recommend a foundation depth of around 20 centimetres. Our team will be happy to advise you on the most suitable foundation solution for your specific site and requirements.
Yes, our aircraft hangars are designed for demanding weather conditions. They reliably withstand high wind loads and heavy snow, providing dependable protection for your aircraft in all seasons.
The PVC covers have an expected service life of around 15 years. The galvanised steel frames are exceptionally durable and, with proper care, can last for decades. This ensures your aircraft hangar remains a secure, long-term investment.
If you are looking for a fast, cost-effective and mobile solution, PVC aircraft hangars are an excellent choice. If maximum stability and long-term durability are your priority, we recommend our steel aircraft hangars. For year-round use and demanding climate conditions, insulated hangars offer the highest level of protection.
Yes, we offer a wide selection of RAL colours. Popular options such as light grey or military green are usually available at no additional cost, allowing your aircraft hangar to integrate seamlessly into its surroundings.
Our aircraft hangars are designed to be low maintenance. Regularly checking the tension of the cover, inspecting fastening elements and occasionally cleaning the PVC surfaces is usually sufficient. This keeps your hangar fully functional and visually appealing over the long term.
Standard aircraft hangars in stock can often be delivered within just a few days. Bespoke aircraft hangars usually require around four to eight weeks, depending on the level of customisation. We coordinate all delivery timelines directly with you to ensure a smooth and reliable process.
We deliver aircraft hangars across Europe directly to your chosen location. Our experienced logistics team ensures safe, dependable delivery, whether within Germany, Austria or or beyond.
All kits are compactly packaged and delivered by freight carrier. The components are stacked on pallets and can be unloaded easily using a forklift or crane.
Yes. Our PVC aircraft hangars, in particular, are designed for easy dismantling and reassembly at a different location. This makes them an ideal solution if you need flexibility or expect to change sites in the future.
Prices depend on size, specifications and design. A basic PVC aircraft hangar typically starts at around €10,000. For larger steel or insulated aircraft hangars, you should expect prices in the range of €25,000 to €50,000, depending on your requirements. We are happy to provide a personalised quote tailored to your project.
PVC aircraft hangars require less material, can be installed more quickly and are easier to transport, which helps reduce overall costs. If you are looking for a long-term solution with maximum stability and durability, the additional investment in a steel aircraft hangar is a sensible choice.
Directly from us. You receive all services from a single source – from consultation and planning to delivery and optional installation. This gives you one dedicated point of contact and full control over your aircraft hangar project.
